This may sound like a silly question but it does bother me little bit

Is this --38% Women 62% Men really true?

How is it really like, any CMU students?

Is this --38% Women 62% Men really true?

How is it really like, any CMU students?

40-60 actually.
You don't really notice it except for the few moments when you are walking down the street and it just so happens to be 10 guys walking together.

I see that you are asian.
You have probably nothing to worry about since a lot of the MALE asian kids here are super-nerdy and anti-social (I said a lot, not ALL so please save the "your racist" comments).

Therefore your chances with the ladies should be fine if you are NOT like what I have described above. If you are what I described above, then no offense but you wouldn't have much luck even if you went to a 80% female 20% male college. Understand?

It is all about the individual and you can either be outgoing or not.

Oh and there are about 10k girls just down the street at Upitt or just in downtown Pitts in general.

Here's a tip to EVERYONE. Take advantage of ALL THE parties and events during your whole week of orientation to get to know people and hook up. I hooked up with 4 different girls during orientation during the amazing parties (foam party, waterfall party, etc) that was thrown by the frats.

Definitely participate in the games and get to know some people. DO NOT be antisocial during orientation or you may find yourself in a bad position to start the year (unless you live in a great floor with social floormmates).

yes, in fact that is what i like about CMU
the more nerdy they are= the more chances i get!

thanks!

I hope they don't expect me to dance at these parties, that could get ugly.

It's not as bad as the numbers would make it seem. However, promiscuity around here is quite low during most of the year. If random hookups are what you're looking for, make sure you're not wearing anything that suggests affiliation with CMU and then go down to Pitt.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha

There's no way CMU can be as bad as Georgia Tech. When we visited and the tour guide said the words "28% female" my curiosity plummeted. UPitt's station as the beacon of female promise will definitley make CMU an awesome choice. Walking with 10 guy friends to my next programming class, I can glance up at the UPitt tower and be reassured that I won't be spending my weekends with the 10 dudes standing next to me.

EDIT: This thread is awesome. It includes the words "foam party"

Yes, there are definitely places where the situation is worse than CMU...Caltech springs to mind. This is actually one of the reasons I chose CMU over Caltech.

Son called me -he's at sleeping bag Sunday (now Monday). Apparrently Creative writing (his major) is distributed 60%-40% but the 60% is female!

with all these guys looking for girls at upitt, sucks for the girls that'll be at CMU, lol.

*it's funny that GATech and Caltech were mentioned here because I also applied to both (but, CMU > GATech, and Caltech rejected me)

"with all these guys looking for girls at upitt, sucks for the girls that'll be at CMU, lol."

No, they get guys too and sometimes better guys than they deserve(it depends on the individual again) but of course guys are LESS willing to focus on personality than looks. Still, desperation and laziness as well as a non-outgoing trait lets many girls hook up with guys they usually couldn't out in the "real world" ( no offense).

Girls at CMU don't go unnoticed. Chances are, if you're a girl at CMU who wants some form of relationship, you can get it.

i actually saw lots of girls at CMU.

does the cold weather have any noticable effect?

Bring a heavy winter coat. If you're really bothered by below-freezing temperatures, you might think twice about coming here. Really, though, it shouldn't be enough of an issue that you change your mind about coming here.

It warms up before you get too sick of the cold and it is not really cold as it is windy. The wind chill probably accounts for most of the complaints about the weather.

The weather's not bad. As for the guys...eh. Standards are lowered at CMU. There are tons of guys, but you don't really notice because they're not particularly dateable. aaacmu girls go to Pitt too....

But in all actuality, you don't notice "the ratio" unless you're in CS. Even engineering is pretty well split.

I'm going to be in CS... so uhhh, what do you mean "not particularly dateable"? I mean, I'm the type of girl who will spend her Friday nights with a bunch of gamer geeks who are lanning and playing, like, CS, SB, and WoW. I'm the worst at video games but I've got down gamer speak pretty much from them.

But if majority of the techies there are like..uber introverted and only talk amongst themselves about things I can't relate to (that sounds like an extreme, but when I went to engineering camp over the summer...trust me, there ARE guys like that..) I mean..the guys at CMU (and guys in CS)'ll show interest in girls..right? Most of them? And...talk to you..about things..other than academics..... and video games...

No, the male CS population is not completely asexual. There are the total introverts, but you tend not to notice them if you're socially well-adjusted (by their very nature). Most male CS majors are totally comfortable talking to other people, including girls. Being a male CS major I can't really comment on the "dateability" of male CS majors, but a good fraction of them will show interest in girls and talk to you about things other than academics and video games. A lot of them might be shy and reserved, but that's usually a temporary problem once college starts.

A friend of my daughter is at CMU right now. She told my daughter that in terms of the CMU guys and the dating scene
"the odds are good, but the goods are odd."
