CMU HS Course Requirements

Hey,

I have a question, I have taken 4 credits of English, but one of them isn't in a core english class, rather its a Critical Thinking course. I was wondering if that would affect the 4 english credit requirement. Also, I haven't taken a single year of biology, but I have taken physical science 9(which encompasses bio), and then 3 years of Chemistry and 2 years of physics. I am planning to apply to the computer science school. I was wondering if the courses I took would make an impact on my even being considered.

thanks

I took physical science in 9th grade also - really it was a preview of chem, physics, and some biology with some good ol earth science mixed in. However it really does not go as indepth as biology, physics, or chemistry (obviously) nor was it as difficult. (I took all 3 in that order for my last 3 years of HS) If you still have another year of HS you should definately take Biology as CMU really is just one of a ton of schools that have that requirement. (I applied to 16+ and I can't think of one that did not have a Bio requirement) Of course it never hurts to all and ask but I think the Biology is a major potential problem. I'm not sure about the english thing...call them and ask. It looks like you are in the class of 07 so I'd go ahead and take Biology to meet the requirement. (p.s. I hate biology so I don't blame you for avoiding it if you did on purpose, especially the plant life units)

btw if you are an international the requirements could be different, but alas you did not post location :(

thanks for the reply...what if my couselor wrote a letter, explaining the reason for not taking Biology (I wanted to take more math/math science courses because they help in computer science).

I just talked to a CMU Admissions person, and they said that they will not reject you just because you don't have 1 year of biology...and if you justify it, you're fine

I've never taken a biology class in my life, and I'm in SCS now. Those requirements aren't strict you-must-have-these-or-else requirements, they're more "you should have taken classes like this, give or take a few".

ah damn now I wish I haden't taken HS bio lol

lol(10 char)
