I am confused by the thread about receiving the In magazine from CMU. Isn't this brochure for prospective students (like juniors) or is it for high school seniors waiting for an acceptance reply?

its just kind of an informational magazine.. could be for either accepted or prospective, except it had how to apply info in the back which is strange since they sent it out to a bunch of seniors that applied

I got one and my theory is that they sent it to everyone who requested information from them, perhaps months ago.

You're right, though. It did seem to be intended for Juniors or other prospective students.

It could be that ^ But then again it was addressed specifically to each applicant (by name), so if you have 30k+ applicants, why would you waste time sending a mag to everyone who applied just days before the actual decision. But it doesnt mean that your in because it well may be that they rejected you and want you to apply again in the future or it could mean ur acceptd! :) lol

I didnt request info and still got the mag so that dispels that theory ^^

How do you know CMU had 30k plus applicants? How many applicants for the school of computer science? We did not receive this magazine recently.

HUH? Is it just me or the magazine was just mailed out recently as in a few days to a week back?? About the numbr of applicants, Im just assuming based on last years numbers. I might be wrong, I didn't check in a long time. But im quite sure its in the high 20s or passed 30 this year with the overall rise of the applicant pool.

I hear the number didn't increase significantly this year but then again it's been increasing by like 20% each year so it would make sense that it'd stop eventually.

Maybe the magazine is based on department.

I'm Computer Engineering / Computer Science, see CMU as a low-reach/high-target, SATs 2170, and I didn't get "IN" magazine.

When do we get decisions anyway?

^^Wow you consider CMU a low reach/high match??? for CE? hahha I don't think any1 can say that accurately because its number two in the nation behind MIT for those majors. And telling us your SAT score doesn't really help, but it does come across as arrogant. ;) Sorry if you didn't mean it that way.

Besides, I applied Computer Engineering in CIT and I got it. I don't know whats the deal with that. Don't worry Im sure it doesnt mean much or anything at all. Post your stats if you got it or not!

Magazine: Yes
School: CIT, CE

My stats:
GPA: ~3.8 (Upward Trend Tho) (Unweighted)
SAT: 2190
SAT II (MATH2): 780
SAT II (BIO): 760
SAT II (CHEM): 680

National Merit Commended Student
CSF Life Membership
Volunteer Awards
French Awards
Leadership (ASB)
Speech and Debate
Var. Tennis Team (Captain)
Hecka Club officer positions (More Leadership)
400+ hours of comm. service
ETC.

I only said it's low reach (or maybe medium reach, maybe) because the Carnegie Institute of Technology has about a 38% admit rate.

I've got accepted so far at my safeties which have admit rates 60-80%, but got rejected at MIT which is about 10%.

Me posting my stats isn't really bragging IMO, it's just providing info for other people who want to know about IN and if there exists some correlation. (Like if they just mailed IN to all the not-admits as some kind of sick joke).

IN magazine did not arrive here.

maybe they were mailing out all the leftovers to random people since they'll be making a new one for next year's prospies.

^
Haha totally agree with that

Does it say "In" magazine on your status page? and is it listed as the same date as "application complete" ?

My son is listed as having the spring newsletter sent the same date as application complete.

We were just wondering if maybe everyone was sent something the day the app is complete.
