CMU Interview!

Hey all, I have an interview on campus with an admissions officer tomorrow and I was wondering what people normally wear (I was thinking a polo and khakis)?
Also, are the questions they ask more in regards to your interest in the school, or your ecs and grades?
Thanks!

My experience might have been slightly different, as I was able to secure an interview because I was attending pre-college (I feel like the interviews were a bit more informal?), but the admissions officer basically asked me what I enjoyed at school both academically and in terms of EC, what I planned on majoring in, what I like about CMU, and then gave me a chance to ask questions. I would bring in a resume and definitely know a decent amount about the college that you plan on applying to, though I guess that goes without saying. As for clothing, polo and khakis sound fine, but I’ve seen people go with pretty informal clothing.

Polo and khakis sound’s fine. At my cornell interview, i wore a sweatshirt and jeans, but it was an alumni interview in a dunkin donuts so I think your, more formal, interview requires proper attire.

They most likely will not ask you about your grades since they have your application or will have it. But if there were any personal problems you had that brought down your grades, you should definitely talk about that. You may be asked about your ECs.

I remember that they asked me about my ECs, my interests, and why I liked CMU. I didn’t do too well because I hadn’t prepared and am one of those people who should, but I still got in. You should also prepare a few questions.

Wear a Scottish kilt and you’re in!
