CMU Life

There have been a lot of threads like this but I have a few other questions that I would like current students to answer?
-Do you go into Pittsburgh often? If so, what is there to do there?
-Do you ever see people who go to school at University of Pittsburgh?
-Do many people participate in sports? If so, what sports are popular and at what level (varsity, club, intramural)?
-How are the gym(s)? Are they used a lot?
-Is greek life part of CMU at all?
-Are frat parties popular?
Thanks in advance for the anticipated help.

There's loads to do in Pittsburgh. It's a major cultural center. There are various Carnegie Museums nearby (all free to CMU students), the Carnegie Science Center on the North Side, the Waterfront for shopping, Squirrel Hill for eating and hanging out, and so on. It's a very nice city, and not boring or lifeless.

No. Unless you already know someone going to Pitt through some other channel, it's quite unlikely you'll meet anyone new there.

Mostly club sports are popular. CMU varsity sports suck. Just take one look at the stadium, which seats about 100 people. About a third of that is the average attendance at a CMU home football game.

The gyms are average. I've only ever used the swimming pool, which is OK, and I don't know anyone who uses the gyms. From what I've seen of them, they're fairly well equipped.

There are frats and sororities, but Greek life is not really a huge presence on campus.

They're just about the only parties you can find without going off-campus, so I'd guess so.

Don't come here expecting a bustling social life and wild parties that start on Thursday night and end on Sunday night. This is not to say I'm unhappy here; I think it's just the right school for me. If you're a geek who can live without constant socialization, you'll be OK here.
