I know that CMU MT is probably the very best program for MT out there. I am wondering whether people feel that CMU acting is at the same indisputably top pinnacle. Do people feel CMU acting is at the same level as CMU MT? Just curious. I don’t think it is an option here, but I find myself wondering just the same.
I would say that Acting is the top discipline at CMU. The acting and MT majors take their classes together. Same faculty.
I agree- acting is in no way 2nd fiddle, it is the heart of their curriculum. and kids are regularly cross cast. If I recall correctly, the male lead in “the Wild Party” was an acting major
CMU is considered one of the most renown schools for both MT AND Acting.
Each are considered the premier program in their respective field. This explains why MT candidates who are redirected to drama accept in rather than attending a different school.
Not to crash this thread, but any thoughts on whether the tech side (Scenic Design) is as highly regarded as the MT and Acting programs?
Yes. They have the most amazing alum network across all the tech disciplines.
We can barely wait until Saturday. She was ‘pre-accepted’ at unfiieds, and I am praying to the FA gods in earnest, it almost seems too good to be true
upstate13 what do you mean by “pre-accepted” at unifieds? which program?
Scenic Design. Toward the tail end of her portfolio review they told her, and wrote it on her interview notes (pre-accepted), and told her she was in - pending the remaining admissions processing. Honestly didn’t think it would be viable financially, but other schools have given her some pretty good $$ so praying they will also. I do think it is her top choice, given all the positives and negatives. We will visit this week, find out about the money and go from there. I am happy for her, and exhausted, as I am sure everyone is!
My daughter is at CMU Drama as an actor & yes, the programs have the same prestige. Also, she did not audition MT, but she is a dancer too. Actors can audition to dance with the MTs and she’s doing that, which is amazing. She dances 5 days a week.
