Hey,

I'm visiting CMU soon and have scheduled an on-site interview.
The interviews are done by admissions officers, yes? Also, would it be expected of me to dress formal for the tour as well as the interview (sorry I'm new to this)?

Thanks

I don’t think dressing up formally for the tour would be a good idea because you don’t know how Pittsburgh weather is going to treat you…As for the interview, I also don’t think wearing a suit/dress-skirt is required unless the description of the interview says so. When I did my interview with an alumni who worked at Wall Street, where everyone is suited up, I was coming straight from school and was wearing sneakers, jeans and tshirt, yet the interview went very well.
You should dress casually and comfortably but don’t be a mess. If you’re really worried, you can always contact the admission office and ask about it, they always welcome questions :)

Polo shirt (or more casual button-up) and khakis as a guy would be the level I’d go with. Slogan t-shirt and torn jeans not so much.

I did an interview at CMU way back when I was applying, and it was a very laid back, casual experience. They’re trying to get to know you as an individual, not as a bunch of letters and numbers of a piece of paper. Show how you’re someone unique that will contribute to the campus’s culture.
