Also, @Inspired59 , did your son do anything to express his interest in cmu other than accepting the priority waitlist offer. Send an email, make a phone call, etc.
Or did you just accept the offer and wait?
@troybolton33 … Actually yes… my S, was very diligent in following up with CMU, but not to the point of being annoying. Upon receiving his wait list letter, he followed up with an email thanking them for this consideration. He also expressed that he apparently had not show them the best of him. He did ask if there was anything they still felt they needed to see or he could submit, to no avail, which I thought to be expected. Since there is approximately 1 month to wait to hear back, he did follow up with another email, still expressing his sincere interest in the program and then another email a few days before the results to be announced… but he NEVER called.
So … here is a little special information that he found out after being accepted… they had reviewed some of his youtube videos of his past performances … so make sure what is out there in social media is what you want them to see, it may be your ticket to being accepted
So @Inspired59 did they accept anyone off the wait list before the May 1 deadline?
^^I don’t think there is a way of knowing that ahead of time. If someone who was accepted, declines the offer BEFORE May 1, wait list movement may be possible at CMU before May 1 (since they only give offers for the exact number of spots in the class and no extras). There is no way to predict that for this year. I think it is fairly safe to assume that WL movement won’t happen until after May 1 and anyone on a wait list should put deposit down at another school by May 1 and if they get off the WL, decide whether to attend and deal with it then, which is likely going to be after May 1.
@inspired59 Was your S still able to receive decent aid after coming off the waitlist? I know the waitlist isn’t necessarily need blind, but I don’t know how heavily that applies to BFA candidates, since that waitlist is already so small. And who did he follow up with via email to stay on CMU’s radar? The general admissions office?
Sorry for the questions! I want to go about this next month (and possibly into the summer) as wisely as I can.
Did you find out your “wait list” decision on the online portal, or did you find out from the letter they sent? My letter hasn’t come in yet…
My decision on the portal said “not atmitted” so, that’s what I’m expect in the letter as well.
@lifeincolor I found out via the portal. The waitlist status was indicated pretty clearly, along with a letter explaining what the waitlist is and how it works. A letter came in the mail with the same information today.
@liveloveMT … I don’t believe they did except anyone prior to the official date. I know there was another student also accepted from the waitlist along with my S and both were at the date indicated. I think there may have been 1 more student also accepted, but I not sure.
Also what @soozievt stated in a previous post, I agree with (and it is what my S had to do)… even if 1 or 2 students notify CMU prior to May 1st, I believe they wait and then reconvene to make further decisions as to whom comes off the waitlist.
@HannahMTheatre … yes he did still receive decent financial aid, there were some negotiations and also sacrifices that needed to take place, but in the end it all worked out To answer the second part of your question, I believe you are a Directing Major, so I’m not sure exactly who you would email. With MT and Acting majors, everyone knows who they auditioned for (Barbara, Gary or Kaf), so my S sent emails directly to them. Who did you audition for? I would suggest you get on the CMU website and find the same type of professors who are instrumental in making final acceptance decisions and email them or whom ever you auditioned for.
So my son is accepted for MT but we need a good bit more money to make it feasible to pass up what Michigan has offered. CMU does not offer merit based scholarships so what other route can we take? We don’t want to get a loan and CMUs offer is no where near what Michigan has offered.
