I did the CMU pre-college musical theater program last year and can answer questions…

Has anyone applied to Carnegie Mellon pre-college for Architecture, summer 2009, and received an acceptance/denial yet. Pins and needles over here.

I got accepted into BU Summer Theatre Institute and Carnegie Mellon University Pre-College Program for Drama. I do have some questions if you could answer them that would be very helpful!
- Is the PCP known throughout different theatre schools for its program? That is, if I apply elsewhere for theatre will they look positivly on the program or just see it as a summer camp that anyone could go to?
- How intensive are the classes? How driven are the students?
- How many kids are admitted to each subdivision of the program? (I know they accept 150 students overall, but how many is technical theatre, mt, and acting specifically?)

Thank you so much!

i don’t know about CFA, but i can say i enjoyed star trek (go sylar!!!)

As for the pre-college, note that it’s a freshman level courses being offered to high school kids, in which, the expectations are lowered. I never did pre-college, but I was here for the summer taking my share of higher level classes.

You should utilize them in one of two ways
1.) Check out a major - don’t know if ECE is really right for you? try intro to ece!
2.) Humanities - World History, etc, etc so that you can work on your major classes when you arrive at CMU

cheers.

I know this is an old thread but I was hoping some alumni could give me input. I am planning to submit my application in the next few days. I know its a bit later in the game, but will that affect my chances?

also do any of you know about the drama program? any input would be greatly appreciated

It’s on a rolling basis after the due date given space availability- go ahead and apply-- you don’t have anything really significant to loose right? The economy is tough- so maybe application numbers are off-- lots of people have the impression that admissions to the program is much less competitive in the summer – so you might as well give it a try.

The drama students mix with the APEA students— we all share the same dorm and there’s lots of great weekend trips. – APEA students can take the music ensembles available-- so you may even pair up there.

Good Luck-- You’ll have an awesome summer!

My daughter is interested in Industrial Design and looking at the CMU pre-college Design program. Can anyone tell me if they attended, what it was like? Did you have a lot of art skills? Is it art intensive, or more about design of products and ideas? Did you have to have really good PSAT scores to get in?
