CMU Pre-College Application

I sent my application in 2 weeks ago, but i havn’t gotten a confirmation that they have all the materials yet. I used the Certified Mail thing from USPS and I got a confirmation that CMU received it, but I’ve read on this board that they lose things. I even wrote a cover letter stating all the things that were in there, but do you think that I should call them just in case? and this might sound stupid, but how do I ask them that? Do I just go, " Hi, I sent an application in recently. Can you check to see if it’s in?

Also, while I am taking acting classes right now at a local theatre and at school, and I probably will get an acting/monologue coach soon in preparation for next year’s auditions, I’m still concerned with my acting because I’m counting on a strong acting and singing audition next year, considering that some schools don’t have dance auditions and the fact that I can’t dance. So how is the Acting Training at CMU Pre-College? Does it actually help or is it more or less like local children’s theatre acting classes, where you really don’t do much.

just from what I know of the program, my friend was in it two years ago, it is modeled directly off of the BFA undergraduate program. I know that in the BFA program they train Actors before they do anything else. I applied for admission into the BFA musical theatre class this year and I'm waiting for a letter! ahhh...but in all the sessions I had with them, they stressed that they want to train actors who can sing and dance before singers and dancers who can act. So the pre-college program is just like that.

claydavisbc, the actor training at CMU Precollege is NOTHING like children's theater classes. As gjordan said, the classes are modeled on the classes in the actor training and musical theater program there. In fact, if you are lucky, you will get to work with CMU faculty while at the program. (They do have other excellent instructors who do not teach at CMU during the school year, too.) CMU is very actor-training-based, even in its musical theater program. In fact, at precollege, MTs take acting with the straight actors.
Re: your application. I would wait a teensy bit longer to call them if you sent it in two weeks ago and certified mail says it arrived. They no doubt have many applications flooding in and are going through them. Good luck. It's a terrific program.

claydavisbcd- i actually just emailed the admissions office of the pre college program @ CMU to make sure they got my app and everything, and within a day they emailed me back clarifying that they got everything! go onto the CMU pre college (drama/music theatre) site and under contact, you can get the email! hope i helped!

Today i received my admission letter from CMU for the 2009 musical theatre pre-college!

Good for you, Megan! If you go, I’m sure you will have an amazing experience.

That’s wonderful! Hopefully if I’m selected i’ll get to be your counselor!

Thanks so much i am very excited!

D got her letter last week too. She’s very excited and really looking forward to the program. Do they room people in the same program together or do they mix the programs in the dorm rooms?

After my interview, I found out they usually try to room them with their own major, and if that doesn’t work out, still within the school of fine arts, but usually they keep them within their own major.

^^ Thanks so much for that info. That is a big relief.
