CMU Pre-College

What does the musical theater program at CMU look for in an applicant?
I'm planning to apply for next summer's program, and do they usually look for experienced people? By next summer, hopefully I will have done 3 school musicals, 1 summer musical at a community college, summer acting classes, 1 year of Advanced drama class, 2 years of advanced high school school choir, 1 year of all city high school honor choir, private vocal lessons for 2 years, and elementary and middle school choir, and elementary school honor choir. I've also taken private lessons in the piano and flute for 5 to 6 years, but the thing is I have never taken a dance class... Will that affect my chances?

Also, does CMU take a close look at academics for its pre-college program?

From what I can gather, the CMU precollege program for MT is not expecting its applicants to have extensive resumes! They are, I think, looking for kids with a decent academic record, several strong recommendations and a demonstrated interest in musical theater. It is NOT an audition program, and my understanding is that kids with a wide range of abilities, talents and experience end up attending. I think they have the students do a dance audition the second day of the program and level them from there, so I wouldn't worry about that. The best advice is to apply early. It's a popular program and fills up quickly.
