My DD wants to apply to Carnegie Mellon College of Engineering. On their webpage Admission > Academic Requirements a footnote says "Only junior or senior test results are acceptable."

My DD took SAT Subject tests Math2 and Chemistry at the end of sophomore year of high school. She has good scores, and doesn't want to retake tests. Is it going to be a problem?

purplegirlmom- although the CMU website seems fairly clear that sophomore test results are not acceptable, I suspect that a quick call to the admissions office would get you a definitive answer.

I think that they are referring to the SAT I, not the Subject Tests. Call admissions to check, but it should be ok.

But a word to the wise - be careful with ^ strateg in general. CMU is extremely adamant about needing the math and physics or chem SAT II scores for CIT (the college of engineering). I went through a hassle with this policy myself a couple years ago (I hadn’t taken a physics or chem class that remotely covered the SAT II material), and they absolutely would not budge on the requirements. For whatever reason, this is one admissions requirement CMU feels strongly about!

I asked a CMU admissions officer about this a while ago, and he said that they would strongly prefer it if the scores were from the junior or senior year, but would accept scores from the sophomore year. I suspect that this is due to wanting to see candidates’ scores at their best.

Don’t take my word for it if you’re really worried, though - contact the admissions office. (I’m pretty confident that they won’t ignore my sophomore scores of 2360 SAT and 800x3 subject tests, but I could be wrong.)
