I just got into the MSIT-SE (3 semester) program at CMU for Fall 11. I have 2 years of work experience since I finished my undergrad CS degree. I was wondering if anybody who's familiar with CMU's SE program, or any software engineering degree, could give me some advice on whether I should wait another year or so and get more work exp. I would also be taking on some loans, but I could probably pay half of all of my expenses myself. Should I wait, or are the benefits of getting a SE graduate degree worth it after 2 years on the job?

Carnegie Mellon is at the top for computer science, so if you’re looking for a one-year information technology degree, I can’t imagine that you can do much better. That said, I know nothing about the MSIT-SE program and its reputation. I’m hoping that by answering this, I’ll bump your question up higher for other, more knowledgeable posters to read.
