I am debating between whether to apply to finance major ED to Tepper or NYU Stern.
I understand that CMU is more prestigious than NYU in overall ranking. However, Stern is more prestigious at finance and rank #2 while Tepper only ranks #9.
Also, the location of Stern (new york) is better than Tepper (pittsburgh) and may offer more opportunities.
The core courses from Stern are less than Tepper, and the elective courses from Stern are more and more specified.
Which one is harder to get in?
Can you tell me which program is better for finance major?
Does Tepper graduates work better than Stern graduates?
Are 4 electives from Tepper enough to cover the finance track and future work?

First off, throw out rankings. They correspond to prestige, but not exactly, and nobody who hires looks at them.

In any case, Stern is a target for IB. Tepper is more of a target for the quant/trading world. Stern is likely harder to get in to.

Better for finance: Stern
Harder to get into: Stern

You should go to the school where what you are studying is the best.

For example at CMU most of the resources will probably go towards the engineering school b/c it is a top engineering school.

At NYU, the top schools are Stern and Tisch as well as a small number of programs within CAS such as Math, English, Philosophy, International Relations, etc.
