CMU: Tepper- Quick Chance/Will Chance Back

Alright, I'm applying to the Tepper School of Business and I really believe it's the place I want to be, however I did not apply ED because of financial aid issues (CMU is expensive). Also, SAT IIs just came in! So... Here are some quick stats:

I do not plan on sending my SAT by the way
ACT: 34C (34R, 35M, 32E, 35S, 9W)
SAT: 2100 (690W, 750M, 670R)
SAT IIs: 800 Math II, 740 USH
GPA: 4.0 uw, 4.92 weighted on a 6 point scale
APs: calc AB (5)
APUSH (4)
Govt (5)
World (5)
Calc BC
APES
Euro
Stats

I'm not gonna put any ECs now, but assume average ECs and Essays for a student applying to Tepper.

Any idea what my chances look like? Thanks for helping!

Bump 10chars

Bump again

No one has an opinion? :/

Don’t know very much about the school you are applying to, but after a little research, I would say you have a pretty good chance at getting in. If I had to bet in vegas, you are in. My only concern is that your GPA is low. If it was a 5.2 or higher, I would say you are in for sure. chance me?

Thank you, I appreciate the chance. If none of my ECs really have to do with business, will it seriously hurt my chances of acceptance?

Bump for any other opinions

I think CMU-Tepper is a high match/low reach for you. You have decent scores and a good gpa. make sure you write good essays.
Chance me back:-

No that does not affect ( -ve ly) ,

“assume average ECs and Essays for a student applying to Tepper.”

Not sure you stated this the way you wanted to, but …
If it’s actually true, I would not expect good news from Tepper. CMU will only admit about 400 from at least 3000 Tepper applicants. Being “average” is a sure way to put yourself out of the running, particularly in extracurriculars and essays, which are extremely important. If you can’t make a case for why you are a better fit for CMU Tepper, then there’s not a whole lot in your favor. Nevertheless, good luck.

You’re right, I guess that isn’t what I meant. I meant that my ECs and essays are average in comparison to other CCers. For example, I have no international awards of intel prizes or anything like that, however, I do have many regional awards, governors school, club leadership, summer programs, etc. but none of them really relate to business very well, which concerns me.

Looking back at my post, it seems that I made my comments slightly curt and too rude and I apologise for that. (and like you, I’m not out of high school so the following is just my perspective)

Things like governors school, other summer programs and awards can be anything from “average” as you said to stellar depending on what they are, so it seems like you would be a pretty good candidate for the humanities school if you have considered that at all. But going for an undergraduate business degree at a school like Tepper is a big commitment if you’re accepted, especially without any business-like experience or studies.
