CMU, UC, UIUC, UMich, GTech. Pick 2 out of these!!

I'm confused about where to apply out of these 5. I'm applying to Cornell, Stanford, UT Austin already, so I don't think applying to 5 more of these dream colleges makes sense.

Here's why I am applying to these:
1. CMU - #1 in CS
2. UC - Berkely is really good for CS, and Davis, SD are good safeties.
3. UIUC - Top-10 for CS
4. UMich - Top-10 for CS
5. GTech - Very good CS school, with a comparatively higher acceptance rate.

My ECs are pretty good, and my work experience is really really good, trust me. Grades are the bad part though. SAT score is 2110 currently, but i'm expecting a 2250+ in the upcoming SATs.
So where among these do I stand the best chance?

Thanks in advance for your time :)

Run the net price calculator on each school.
If not affordable, check for merit scholarships.
If affordability is still not possible, remove the school from the list.

What are your grades then? And what about costs, are you parents fine with full pay or do you look for any aid? Is UT your instate? I wouldn’t consider SD a safety, likely a match but you don’t say what your UC gpa is.

??? What is your GPA??

How much will your family pay? Some of those schools will not be affordable.

Are you instate for UTAustin? If you are OOS for UCB, UIUC, UMich and GTech, guess what ? Unless you crack 2200+ with at least a 750 in Math, your chances are not that bright with an iffy GPA. Super ECs will always help.

BTW, for GTech, the acceptance rate will be much lower for CS for an OOSer…it is 33% overall.

Sorry I forgot to mention, I’m an International applicant.
I have a 9.2 CGPA for 9th and 10th grade.
11th - 78% and 12th 70% (till now)
Also, if I have really super-ECs, can they + good essays compensate in any way for my scores?
I have a 750 math in the SAT 1 and i’m quite confident of getting past the 2200 mark (at least).

Oh, not too many US people know how to evaluate overseas gpa. EC and essay doesn’t really compensate for gpa at these uni. If you are going to apply to the UC, I’d add Irvine, they have a huge amount of CS profs and a big program. As you likely know if is all one application for UC. I suppose you should just pick by where you want to be and where you think you can get an acceptance.

Depends on the EC. Placed highly in some national/international coding competition? That certainly would help at UIUC and likely elsewhere as well.

And yes, apply to all UCs. UCSD and UCLA place very well in CS as well and UCI is a recruiting ground for Silicon Beach.

@BrownParent‌ @PurpleTitan‌ Yes I am applying to most UCs (Berkeley,LA,SD,SB,Irvine,Davis).
My work-ex includes being founder,CEO and chief-editor at a webmag with 25+ employees and over 100,000 views and some more entrepreneurial ventures.
ECs include quite a few coding competitions but no real big international one.

Big question is, can you afford all of these schools?

@ucbalumnus‌ Yeah. That ain’t an issue.

That work experience could be impressive. Fire off apps and see what your options are. I don’t see why you have to choose 2 out of those 5.

Why has your GPA dropped?

This is my complete college list.
@PurpleTitan‌ I was wanting to eliminate colleges that give more importance to grades and don’t consider ECs and WorkExes that much.

Dream :
Stanford
Cornell
Carnegie Mellon
UC Berkeley
UIUC
U Michigan Ann Arbor
Harvey Mudd College

Range:
UT Austin
Georgia Tech
UCLA
U Minnesota Twin Cities

Safety:
UT Dallas
UC Irvine
UC San Diego
UC Santa Barbara
Purdue
SUNY Buffalo

@SoMuch2Learn‌ Its a natural trend here because the 11th grade is considered to be a kind of break-year before the all important 12th grade. Also, loads of work apart from academics may have dealt a blow as well.
