hi everyone,

i'm debating between going to cmu for electrical engineering and columbia for applied math/financial engineering and maybe a minor in EE. i know companies like google recruit on each campus, but which school would be easier for a quantitative finance career? i'm thinking that after a few years in that industry, i'll go on to a masters in comp sci or engineering. would this be easier from cmu or columbia? pros/cons would be appreciated. thanks!

honestly, both are excellent schools for both departments. cmu will give you more attention than columbia as cmu is more about personal attention while columbia is a bit more bureaucratic. columbia is located in nyc and you can more easily get access to internships at columbia than at cmu. but then again, if you plan to be like an investment banker, you are going to be in new york for the rest of your life. in that case, cmu would be better as it would be somewhere different than new york city.

as for social life,
this site might give you an idea of what to expect at each college.
