CMU vs Berkeley (economics)

I've had opinions thrown at me from all angles and I simply need to be presented with a consensus. I'll most likely be attending Duke or LSE both of which unexpectedly accepted me, but I created this thread anyways because I need help clearing up a dispute between me and a friend who actually is trying to chose between Berkeley and CMU.

Hypothetically I would be leaning towards CMU since I've heard its undergrads are presented with better opportunities for the future in terms of internships and I have a bias towards the "East Coast". I also like overcast weather having lived in sunny Dubai my whole life. The fact that the economics degree is from both H&SS and Tepper is also a huge pro since my friends stats were slightly below Teppers range (2140 SAT). My friends has slightly differing views to me, though he is still (partly thanks to me) in limbo between Berkeley and CMU.

Arguments for Berkeley predominantly relate to its absolutely legendary economics program and strength in academics- although CMU's economics program isn't that far behind. A huge con for Berkeley is its size; in comparison to CMU its massive and this, IMO, could result in a very impersonal college experience along with an unhealthy level of competition. My friends is also quite introverted so I don't think he'd fit into a "socal" lifestyle. I also disagree with the activist mindset often associated with the stereotypical Berkeley student (not here to argue this); although I would't know since I haven't actually visited.

So with that in mind could you guys please help me out here . Thank you in advance. This has also been posted in the CMU forum.

Bump 10 char’

I can’t think of a way to put CMU above Berkeley, ot be quite honest about it. Berkeley would just outrank CMU in every single way. That is not to say CMU isn’t a good school though. It only means Berkeley is just better.

Bump again…

Berkeley is actually pretty overcast and cool as well. You want sunny CAlifornia, that is more LA or san diego. Even in summer, you need a light jacket in Berkeley…

Bump 10 char’ need some more opinions ^^.

Honestly, if you are stupid enough to ask this question, you should go to CMU. You won’t survive here.
