CMU vs Berkeley for CS

Hi, I'm wondering which undergraduate university is better for computer science. I'm interested in going to grad school rather than getting a job straight out of college. It appears that Berkeley sends more students to graduate schools than CMU does. Is there any particular reason for this? Which one would be recommended?

Thank you!

Scrap those numbers about Berkeley CS majors going to grad school more than CMU grads. There are so many factors that determine graduate school paths that NO SURVEY could accurately provide information.

Berkeley and CMU are pretty much the same for CS. Grads from either school can go to the same graduate schools…depending if the grad wants/needs to go anyway.

Some grads could get the right breaks career-wise that they won’t even need grad school. Some grads may end up working at companies that will promote them without them needing a Master’s/PhD.

So many factors.

Both are plenty good for the general “quality” criteria in CS (preparation for CS jobs or CS PhD programs, etc.).

Academic fit can be significantly different, in terms of what required and optional CS and non-CS courses are in the curriculum. Non-academic fit can be different as well. Recruiting for post-graduation jobs can be different regionally.

If there are significant net price (or student loan requirement) differences, then those may be the deciding factor for many students.
