i got into both cmu and berkeley for engineering, except for berkeley im a spring admit...im not so sure that i want to do engineering cause im not so hard core into it but im sorta confused on which one i should choose...i also got into UCLA but don't know about that either

Would not recommend CMU if you aren’t sure what you want to do. You must apply to a specific school, and even though you can later transfer, it may add a year to your degree program.

I’ve heard it’s very similar at Berkeley, and can be even harder since they have more “impacted majors” than CMU. Generally, as long as you’re a pretty solid student, you won’t have too much trouble getting into the other schools.

Also, I’d recommend starting out in engineering if you’re not sure about it, since it’s easier to go from engineering to arts/sciences than from arts/sciences into engineering since typically engineering has more required classes that must be taken in a certain sequence.

If you maintain good grades, it is not that difficult to transfer from one department to another. One exception is SCS. I am not sure you that you would end up loosing “a year” if you transfer from one major to another; you have to plan your courses and make a decision about changing your major early.
