I am debating about whether to go to CMU or Cornell for computer science. I know that CMU's number one, and Cornell is only the tier below that, and I've searched through tons and tons of forums about this topic. However, I couldn't find anything about the jobs and internships offered during and after college for Cornell.
I know CMU gets tons of recruiters from big name recruiters like Google, Amazon, and Facebook, but does Cornell get the same amount of recruiters? How hard is it for CS majors from Cornell to get jobs? How are the CS courses like in Cornell? Could someone, hopefully, give me some examples (like in CMU they get to make chess bots)? How available are internships with big name companies and research opportunities in Cornell?

There is no need to pick apart the schools like this. The difference between two top 10 schools is going to be marginal. Not even counting how close they are, computer science is a field where school prestige doesn’t really matter too much, and CS majors are in high demand anyway.

But, for what it’s worth, Carnegie Mellon’s location means that it’s probably going to have more opportunities. Really, though, just go to whichever school you like better based on other qualities, or whichever is cheaper. As far as job placement goes, you’re good to go with either.

Octagons pretty much hit the nail on the head.

You’ll have job opportunities at both with the big companies, don’t worry about it. CMU and Cornell are VERY different schools/campuses, so I’d find it hard for you to really like both.

As you can see, Cornell does pretty well in terms of big name companies.

I would second with octagons. CMU is located in the second-largest city in the States, whereas Cornell is in Ithaca. But if you like Cornell better, go to Cornell. You are going to be there for four years. You can still end up with a prestige job as soon as you graduate (the possibility is always there).

Both are right on par with each other, so the decision has to come down to your intuition on which one would be a better fit for you.
