CMU vs UCB Computational Bio

Son has been admitted to UCB BioEngineering program & CMU Computational Bio MCS, CIT. Here is what we know of the program, please advise

UCB:
Pros: Instate Tuition: $32K
Ranking: BioEngineering ranked 10th
Program:Very Flexible BioE program with Computational Bio track
Near home
Cons: Very Competitve School

CMU: Pro: Admitted to Computatinal Bio in MCS, Any Eng CIT, Waitlisted CS
Ranking: Do not know about their Comp Bio program but engineering and CS highly ranked
Con:Tuition: $54K with $8.8K scholarship
Have to maintain high gpa to be admitted to Comp Bio program
Far away from home

Does any one have any advice on CMU vs UC Berkeley? Is CMU degree worth $22K/yr more?

Congrates to your son!
CMU is very tough in general. My friend’s Daughter is a freshman in CS. She said only give 10-15 % A even everybody is very smart & good. In general 8.8K is the norm very few got more.
UCB in state may be a financially best choice plus good reputation.
UCLA is also good but not like UCB a sure elite.

ImPC123: thanks for the info- our son was accepted to CS and received 8100 in aid-you think that is the norm?

You should really post this question on the cmu subreddit, which has more current CMU students on it than this forum.
