CMU vs. UIUC Engineering

Hi guys!

I’m currently deciding on whether I should attend CMU or UIUC. I got into UIUC for Engineering undeclared and CMU’s CIT.

I’m instate so UIUC costs around 37k and CMU costs 78k (I received no financial aid).

I’m a bit skeptical on which engineering field I want to study; I have interests in Material Science, CS, and many others. With UIUC’s engineering program, I get to select a major based on my freshman year GPA, however at CMU it seems like the requirement to select a major is a bit more lax (correct me if I’m wrong).

What worries me though about CMU is that in my admission letter I was already denied access to Electrical and Computer
Engineering. Also, I won’t be able to explore much of CS being that the CS there is in a separate school and I’ve heard transferring is virtually impossible.

What are your thoughts: UIUC or CMU? I’d love to hear

For lots of reasons, UIUC is your best choice. It costs about 1/2 of CMU and you have the chance to get into the engineering major of your choice. The fact that you have been shut out of tow engineering majors at CMU is an issue too.

Thank you for replying!
