Hi! Im an international from greece but im also a US citizen since i was born in the states. The deal is i got accepted to both CMU and UIUC for Civil Engineering. I have no clue what to pick and the deadline is in 10 days. UIUC is one of best engineering schools and CMU is good. however CMU has a greater reputation than UIUC that might turn out helpful.

costwise the deal is:
UIUC ~ 47.000$
CMU ~ 57.000$ but i got a 18.155$ scholarship for the first year. so you can say overall CMU and UIUC are the same price.

I intend to go to grad school at an ivy league. What do u think will be best??

Run the numbers through this calculator, and see how much of a difference there is: [FinAid | Calculators | Award Letter Comparison Tool](<a href=“Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid”>Award Letter Requirements - Finaid)

You are a US citizen, so you can file the FAFSA and qualify for a Stafford Loan. Is the Stafford included in your package at CMU? If not, it looks like CMU is cheaper than UIUC. Is that scholarship renewable for future years? If so, what do you need to do to keep it? If the GPA you would need is too high, you might be better off at UIUC.

Both of these are excellent institutions. You can get into good graduate programs from either of them.

Wishing you all the best!

the scholarship is only for the first year. it is not renewable. CMU total will cost: 210.000$
UIUC: 188.000$. UIUC will be 22.000$ cheaper

UIUC its cheaper and equal if not better ranked depending on specific field
