Hey Everyone!

I'm deciding between these 2 schools at the moment. I plan on doing computer engineering, and got into ECE at CMU and computer engineering at UIUC.

For UIUC, I was accepted into the James Scholar Honors Program for the college of engineering.

For the honors at UIUC, I have some benefits such as priority class registration, etc.

Which school would be a better choice? I'm looking into factors such as job opportunities and prospect for each school, quality of education and which school I have better research opportunities?

Also, which school will I be able to interact more with professors and work with them on research?

Please disregard the cost of tuition, etc, as I am an international student, and money isn't the issue for me really. Since they come up to only 10-15k difference.

I would really appreciate advice from people who know or can answer the questions above. Thanks!

Bump. Someone please?

Basically, all of CMU is an honors college, and you’re not going to have an issue registering for classes after your freshman year (unless it’s some crazy popular humanities class which might be tough to get in your sophomore year). Both schools will have fantastic opportunities, though you’ll probably get a bit more one-on-one with CMU professors since the department’s likely a bit smaller and there are a lot fewer students on campus. You can try looking at each school’s course catalogs to see what sort of offerings there are, as well as how quickly you’ll be able to start taking classes you’re really interested in.

A lot of it comes down to what sort of campus personality are you more interested in. CMU is in a mid-size city that’s really inexpensive, relatively diverse neighborhoods, and not in the middle of corn fields. UIUC will probably have a much stronger “college town” experience as well as, well, more people to try and find a niche with.

(As a note I went to CMU for Materials Engineering as an undergrad and loved it. My roommate for three years was ECE with a minor in CS and really enjoyed it as well. I think his favorite course was one where he got to, essentially, build an arcade game including the controller, drivers, and program the game itself.)

Anyone else? Would appreciate any opinions. Also, if you could compare Georgia Tech as well, that will be good. Thanks!
