CMU's campus?

I've never actually been to CMU and I was wondering what you all thought about the campus? I am going to visit in two weeks, but I just wanted your opinions.

I thought it was beautiful. The students are very helpful and informative. I had a great experience!

how about the size? anyone?

It's very compact. The main area centers on a sloping quad of interconnected historic buildings w/ a faux Italian Renaissance motif. There are other buildings (research facilities, dorms) nearby, but the quad is the core of CMU. If I recall, it sits up on a slight rise above the University of Pittsburgh, UP Hospital, the Carnagie museum, etc. It's a part of the Oakland section of Pittsburgh which a great college town and older section of the city... you would enjoy it.

medium-sized

It's got kind of a neat feel. You know you are in a huge metropolitan area, yet, because of the hill CMU sits on, you feel somehow isolated. It's a great mix.

its compact to the point where its very easy to get from point a to point b but still feel spacious. when i visited on monday, there were kids playing ultimate, selling food for orgnizations and the kids were also very nicec and helped me navigate the builidings.

It is a very nice campus, and its compactness is a huge plus when you're actually living here. I only have to allow myself ten minutes at most to get from my dorm to my first class; compared to what it might be on a bigger campus, I'd say that's pretty good.

Before I came to campus, I thought it'd be ugly, but it's actually really pretty. It has a huge quad, the buildings are mostly yellow brick, which is nice, and the area surrounding the school is really cute (small shops, old houses). The size is about a 10 minute walk from one side to the other, so "compact" is a good term, but its completely unlike many other "city" schools I've been to. There are no roads running through campus (unless you count Forbes, which seperates Morewood/New House/Mudge from campus), and behind campus is a huge park (2nd biggest city park in the country I beleive) that has a huge field, three or four playgrounds, ice skating, and miles of trails for walking/jogging/biking. I absolutely love it.

"Before I came to campus, I thought it'd be ugly"

Thats exactly what I thought, but after my visit monday my perception, about pittsburgh and CMU, totally changed. Pittsburgh itself is very nice and clean compared to most other big city's. CMU's campus is also very modern looking, compact but spatious. Its also like its own little world but very connected to pittburgh in its own way. Out of all the schols I visited it is by far my most favorite campus, and school.
