anyone else planning on attending one of the "co-curricular" programs that are held for the 3 days prior to freshman move-in day?!

they look pretty fabulous - expecially "Exploring DC".
would love to D to get to know how to move about in the city!

if anyone attended any of these, particularly "Exploring DC", please feel free to share your thoughts!

benefit of moving in early and getting the lay of the land?

did you eat on your meal plan at school or does that plan not begin until Aug 30?

the brochure says that two meals a day, transportation, and entrance into city locales are part of the registration fee - extra money needed?

would love to hear more!

I signed up for the Emerging Leaders Program I’m thrilled!

All these programs are good for is to bond with other students early and have some fun prior to the semester, not to mention help avoid the move-in day chaos, since you can move in like 5 days priorly! I didn’t do it, but my friend did, and loved it, besides, if you do so, you get to chose your bed before the roomates come on move in day.

S did “Exploring DC” his freshman year. As a parent, getting to move him in early was a big advantage…it was still somewhat chaotic, but nothing like the all-school move-in. One of the kids he met in his group became one of his closest friends (they didn’t live in the same dorm so likely wouldn’t have even met each other) & they’ve been roommates since soph year. S was somewhat familiar with DC, so didn’t really need to learn how to get around the city, but for a kid who’s not that familiar, it would probably help them feel more comfortable.

super info - thanks!
sounds like it’s well worth the $150!

I would highly recommend participating in one of the pre-orientation programs. I participated in Project Exploration: Multisport and the Emerging Leaders Program. Besides the advantages of moving in early, being grouped together in one of the pre-orientation programs allows your son or daughter to make friends with people who have a similar interest to them. For example, the only thing I knew I had in common with people I was attending CI with was that we would be attending GW next year. However, I knew that the other kids who chose to engage in PE had a love of the outdoors, just like me. It provides a built-in foundation for friendship, or at least having a friendly face around campus.
