Co-ed bathrooms at Yale?

Hey, I am a yale 2015 scea hopeful, and I heard that all the bathrooms in the residential colleges are co-ed. Is this true? I'd like to hear from any current yale students or alumni about their experience with this. Thanks!
by the way, my username is not im a god but imago dei. haha. =)

Bathrooms are not coed freshman year. In later years, when you enter the room lottery in your residential college, you may be on a coed floor and have a coed bathroom. If you REALLY feel strongly about single sex, I think you can tweak the room draw (like taking a lower choice room with a same sex suite already chosen across the hall). There are also rooms with en suite bathrooms. The way the entryways in residential colleges are organized, there are not that many people sharing a bathroom, so the bathroom is empty much of the time–not constant bustle.

Coed bathrooms were not a big deal for anyone I knew. People tend to stay out of each other’s way and give each other privacy. For the showers, there’s a robe hook right outside the door. No one is so immature as to try to peak at you when you open the door and grab it in the rare instances that someone else is in the bathroom. That’s my alumni version of events. Current undergrads may have a different report.

AdmissionsAddict’s report is absolutely accurate.

The residential colleges are accommodating. I recall some students needing sgl-sex bathrooms for religious reasons of modesty. Their res college was able to work with them.

In my situation, our suite had one or two live in girlfriends constantly it seemed and there never was any weirdness w/the bathrooms.

Thank you all so much! I just wanted to know if there were options, so that is good to know.

It’s really not a big deal. If it’s a huge problem for you, you can probably work it out with your college dean. But you should have a good reason (more than eeeeew I can’t share a bathroom with boys/girls!!!). But really… it’s not a big deal.

Funny story… i knew one girl who was panicking about having two boys in singles across the hall from her… until she found out they were the two most ostentatiously gay boys in our college. It was pretty funny…
