Is it harder for international students to get co-op? Also, I've read that co-op for CAS literally sucks, any truth to that? (I applied to CAS as an econ major.)

thanks!

Yeah, the issue with being international is getting the right kind of visa... I don't really know the logistics of that, but I know there are people who can't get paid co-ops because they legally can't work in the US. I also have international friends who have done co-op though, so you'd have to talk to an advisor about all that.

And no... CAS co-ops don't suck. There probably are less options in say, anthropology or English, only because those don't lend themselves to specific careers the way certain other majors do. But if you have some idea of what you want to do, it really doesn't matter what your major is.

I was pretty worried about the visa issue, but I guess I’m willing to take the risk. Co-op was what made me want to go to Northeastern; it’s pretty hard choosing a school without visiting, so yeah.

Thanks! :)

As an international student, you can do only two co-ops… If you do more, then your OPT time will be declared null and void and you will not be eligible for it upon graduation… Google the definition of OPT and read up on it.

I dunno about international student positions in CAS school but in engineering/business/economics, there are quite a few positions available for internatils. This poses more of a problem in engineering jobs since quite a few of them are defense based and hence, its a pain to be international. But for finance/economics jobs, you should be fine…

jai6638 thanks for the detailed information man
I’m an internationa student and my majors business with a finance concentration…so I guess that’ll work out for me
