My d is interested in co-op program. She is going to apply this year (she is a junior). My daughter is planning to apply to Drexel, Northeastern, and Cincinnati. Can anyone tell me whether the international students need any special work permit apart from their regular student visa? Are they supposed to go back to their own country for their internship or are they allowed to work in US?

Hi, I’m a student currently studying in Cincinnati. Your daughter won’t need a different type of permit. When she comes here on her student visa she just needs to register with the international office and they will take care of her paperwork. It is completely hassle-free, I assure you :). Either way, she won’t be co-op’ing anytime before the end of her sophomore year, so don’t worry about the paperwork taking too long. Make sure to apply for a 5 year student visa though!

Hey!. Why not try Canada for Co-op. University of Waterloo has a GREAT Co-op program, the best in the world. I plan on going there this fall for Mechanical Engineering.
