Co-Op Program: Takes away from college experience?

Hey there, guys (:
I'm a high school senior, intending to major in journalism, who kind of applied to Northeastern on a fluke, but after being accepted into their honors program and getting a scholarship, I've been looking more and more into it. My top choice at the moment is Northwestern University, which I liked for their journalism residency program. But now I'm looking into Northeastern's Co-Op program, thinking that it would be a great experience and help me with securing a job after graduation.

However, as I look into it, I began worrying .. if a Northeastern student spends so much time working on their co-op site, doesn't that take away from the college experience? Do you not meet as many people because you're not in classes / on campus? Does your social life suffer?

Any insights would be extremely helpful .. a break down of the co-op program, personal experiences, pros and cons. Anything, seriously. I was so sure I would go to Northwestern if I got accepted, but now that I'm looking into Northeastern, I'm not so sure.

Thanks in advance!

This thread has lots of info about this… a lot of people ask this question since the co-op thing is so weird and is really hyped up by the school.

Most of us agree that we still get the “college experience” here, and that co-op is 100% worth it. Despite co-op we’re still normal kids and we do normal college things. The first two years feel very traditional college, and while on co-op a lot of people still live around campus and have pretty normal college social lives… plus with more money and no homework your social life while on co-op is pretty good.
