Does anyone here live in a co-op? How expensive is it, and how much does rent actually cover (rent, food, utilities, furniture, etc)? Also, I know that there are a good number of them... what are some of the pluses and minuses about each co-op? Where would you recommend living?

NEVER MOVE INTO A COOP!

I cannot stress this enough. They are dirty and filled with hippies who smoke weed.

3200/semester- includes rent, food, utilities (besides $20 semester fee for internet), and furniture.

There are spots available for many of the houses right now, there’s like 20 for Cloyne.

Pluses-
awesome food
awesome people
awesome parties
awesome people interested in lots of different stuff

cons-
nobody ever shuts the hell up

and parties are so wild. lol cloyne. cough

i would never

I recommend it. It’s a lot of fun and you will be exposed to a lot of different viewpoints/lifestyles. IMO life’s too short to pass up opportunities like this.

I live in an all women’s house…pros: quiet. I can get a midnight snack, and there might be a pair of people chatting and the late night dishwasher. Probably not like this at larger houses.

Dinner food’s okay. Usually 2 or 3 students cook dinner, and quality varies a lot. Only brunch on Sundays. I like how I can just take food out of the pantry and make myself lunch. Better than dorm food, definitely (esp. for vegetarians).

Cons: houses are ****ty. They’re not well-cared for, with a lot of maintenance problems. (and this is supposed to be one of the cleaner ones)

When I first moved in, I thought it was pretty dirty. Now I’m used to it…and like it a lot more than my first semester in a dorm. People are more open here, at least compared to my ex-hallmates.
