Coach asking for additional LL from Admissions?

Hello all - I included this question in another thread, but wanted to get the question in the title so it's more visible.

From what our D has been told, she is in a pretty good spot to get a LL only IF the head coach is successful with getting an additional LL from Admissions. No clue if this matters, but last year they did not use all of their LLs.

QUESTION / OPINIONS: What is likelihood of coach being successful in getting that additional LL from Admissions???

Oh man…that takes the LL anxiety to a whole new level. Of course no one can tell you the chances the coach will be successful - but for the sake of conversation I’ll chime in with some thoughts.

If the team has not been very successful recently, admissions may be more receptive to giving them an additional nod.

If the coach has been at the school for a long time, he may have more established connections and be in a better spot. (Then again he may also have more enemies)

The prevailing attitude of administration toward athletes may be a factor. Some schools <cough> Yale </cough> are probably less likely to give more support to athletes.

Good luck - check in next week with the (hopefully good) news

As varska pointed out, it will depend on a lot variables: which college, what sport, how long the coach has been there, how the team has been doing lately, the academic viability of the applicant, etc.

Among those variables, the answer still might vary by sport and school. For example, a new coach might be given more flexibility as he tries to rebuild a program, or a veteran coach might have more luck due to his established relationship with admissions.

Hang in there, and good luck to your daughter.

Thank you for your comments. Lets see the program has not been doing well last few years, the coach has a well above ave tenure, my D has a 220+ academic index. The school? Um probably not a positive factor in this situation. This has been such a long road whew. More to travel.
