Coastal Carolina Audition Day

gardenmum - Honestly I have never heard that. My D lived in a dorm on campus freshman year, then in university housing just off campus her sophomore year. She and her friends have always felt safe on campus. And I’ve been on campus many times and always felt safe walking around, even late at night after shows.

I was wondering if you had actually heard about CCM, and not CCU. I just went and checked out this list of the 50 Most Dangerous College Campuses, was surprised at how many of the BFA Theatre program schools are on the list! However, CCU was not one of them. :)

I’m also wondering if you’re confusing the two campuses. CCU is in a fairly quiet suburb close to Myrtle Beach. It hardly feels unsafe. It’s an attractive smallish campus. CCU would be far down on the list of ‘dangerous campuses’ Another positive to consider (for me) is that if your son or daughter were to drive somewhere, it would most likely be Myrtle Beach, which isn’t far away at all and not a challenging drive. I know of many campuses that require much more aggressive, alert driving if you want to go from Point A to Point B.

I live in the South and am quite familiar with CCU…I am pretty sure it is not in a dangerous area. It is somewhat close to a popular tourist destination…

For anyone who is seriously interested in CCU and has been accepted academically, the deadline for application based scholarships is March 1. These are different from the merit and talent scholarships. My D receives a merit award and 2 application awards, so it is possible to receive both types. Here’s the link for more info:

Squishy deadline for BFA students. For the Visual and Performing Arts Scholarship, that date isn’t true. For all others… it is.

I’m the father of a CCU BFA student who also didn’t want to be in the Deep South for college, based on the conservative leanings in our community that had led to some issues with her high school theatre program. She was looking at schools in NY, NJ, DC… Until a Tony winner encouraged us to look at Coastal Carolina during a NYC workshop a couple of years ago (note to parent who asked if it is well-regarded in the industry). She went to an audition weekend begrudgingly and fell in love - with the program, the people, the philosophy. So did we! She’s been very happy and feels she’s receiving top quality training and experience at Coastal in a challenging and robust program that is nevertheless supportive. Coastal was the perfect choice for her.

That is exactly what we felt at CCU, GaTheatreDad! I can rave and rave about how welcome we felt and how incredible the program appears to be. It’s one of those situations where you just have to go and visit to understand how terrific it is!

And when you’ve been to the cattle call at some other schools, you can’t believe how much time COastal’s theatre faculty and staff spends really getting to know each auditionee! And the personal attention continues once you’re enrolled. Great program!

This is a thread from the MT forum, but I wanted to bring it over here so that folks looking at where to audition for 2013-2014 could read it as well. Just a nice little update on CCU and also some info about the program iteslf from some current students:
