Alright, couple of quick thoughts. I wanted to refrain from actually writing anything on this thread because I lost my password and did not want to make another account, but I remembered it and now I want answers. Firstly, there is no way this scholarship is more competitive than getting into Harvard. That being said, who knows the list of kids that got in from Illinois, I’m sick of waiting.

Ok well lets take a objective look at this…only 250 people receive this scholarship-how many are accepted to Harvard each year? And as people have stated before no one copied the list of the finalists so you will have to wait like all the rest of us.

will notification come through email tomorrow?

@mgk0308- going strictly by perecentages… there are75,000 applicants fighting for 250 spots. So you have a .3333% chance of winning when you apply. And you have approximately a 3 percent chance of just making it to the semi-finalist round. So, based on precentages, much more difficult than a Harvard acceptance (9%).

Good luck tomorrow everyone.

Yes that is how the lady made it sound when I called her today lol and she said that we would know by tomorrow what the list was so I am assuming that she didn’t mean the only thing they would be doing was sending something in the mail. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

Very well stated rfwcphs1!

What I am saying is truly think about it though. The average person that initiates a Harvard application has taken 3 SAT II tests, feels confident about their near perfect gpa and list of other credentials. It’s simply a waste of time applying to a school that is that selective if you know you do not stand a chance. Something like the coke scholarship, 75,000 may have applied, maybe half taking it seriously or completely filling out the application and maybe half of those with actual credentials to move on.

And only six people from Illinois is rough. Just wondering if anyone caught high school names.

Well, I didn’t have the opportunity to see the list, so I have no idea what to expect for tomorrow. Like the rest of you, I tried my best on the application, filled in the blanks to the best of my ability, wrote and rewrote the essays, and more. We are very accomplished to have made it this far, and we all care as demonstrated by our participation in the board. I have been very impressed with the kindness of everyone in this board, and I am glad that Daisy created it. With that said, I wish everyone the best of luck once again, but even if you don’t win… dont stop applying for scholarships. I know a girl who made the semifinals last year and did not advance further. She went on to win the Lombardi Scholarship at UF and got 22,000 dollars, studying abroad trips, placement in the honors program, leadership roles and more. I enjoyed coming home each day to see the new posts here… somewhat of a scholarship family. :)

mgk0308:

I’d bet that more people get into Harvard that don’t win Coca Cola Scholars than those that get into Harvard and do win. The type of people who are most likely to even know about the Coca Cola scholarship are fairly qualified applicants. Even if only half the the Coca Cola scholars were qualified, that would still be 35,000 people.

Also, I took a pretty good luck at the IL list… if you want to PM me your name and high school, I might be able to recall it. Not making any guarantees so don’t get your hopes up, but it might be worth a try.

What state are you from icfireball? lol

Kissin’ cousins to Wisconsin: Illinois. Could you guess? :-p

icfireball what’s the verdict?

Check your PM.

LOL! Well hello neighbor! Im in the far north of Wisconsin though so its a good three and a half hour drive to Illinois lol

Oh, my aunt lives in northern Wisconsin, except on the west side of the state.

Also, Coca Cola was really smart to make the semi-finalist and finalist lists search engines… because they can’t be (easily) cached (i.e. by Google).

Oh lol yea I am pretty much right by Lake Michigan lol

Brrrr… must be cold there.

Ya that is true that way you can’t just google it to see if your name is or has been on there. And yes of course its freezing here!!! Its going to be like 40 tomorrow though-HEAT WAVE!

wow^^^^^ heat wave lol

We’re getting the heat wave too. And yes, when you’ve had weeks of supercold temperatures, mid 40s is downright tropical.
