Coca-Cola Scholarship - 2008-2009

Yeah same here!!!!!

Just got an email confirming everything about two hours ago. Quite excited =)

I am so excited and impressed with how many of us CCers are semifinalists. Is this something that I can put on my college application? Semi finalists for Natl Merit and Coca Cola. How cool. We are top 2%?!!!? That's smaller than and Ivy League admission, or even Julliard. That's so cool!

Congrats Everyone!!!

I got an e-mail too, by the way. It has all the information for the process. It is like a mini colege application that needs to be filled out...

I got a email as well!

I got an email too! Yay! Me and my parents are so excited!

Got Semi!

At first I was sad cause I thought I didn't make it, but then when I requested my password I was using the wrong one. When I logged in I got the "congratulations" message!

What are there like 1500 of us?

how did u request ur password?

Wooo! I just checked my email and I'm a semifinalist!

Go team!

Or go Coca-cola.

Whatever.

You might want to check your junk mail.
Congratulation to everyone and to myself! :)

what are ur stats? do you think they are done sending the emails?

I think they are done.

I just got an email like an hour ago, so I don't think they are done.

Woo hoo! I got one today too.
Not looking forward to all the extra work though.
And to the person who is asking for stats.

i don't understand why i did not get semifinalist ?

I found an old thread awhile ago that detailed how they decided on semifinalists for the Coca Cola scholarship- I don't have the link, and for some reason, I can't find it anymore, but the basic gist is that, at least last year, the first round is calculated by computers based on the information you give (because really, how could it be possible to read everybody's application, 75,000 this year, by hand in less than a month? It would perhaps be possible, but would undoubtedly cost too much money, which would decrease the amount of scholarships Coca Cola could give) and then the next round, which is the January 9 round, will include the essays, transcripts, activity lists, and reccomendations that will all be hand evaluated. Basically... the first round was pretty much a game- I'm not quite sure if the more boxes you filled in, the better your chances were, but I do know that they put a major emphasis on community service.

There was a girl in my school who also applied for the scholarship but wasn't chosen. She was in top 7%, 4.5 weighted GPA, senior class pres, v. volleyball captain, FCA president/leadership team, 7 AP's

It's all subjective. I had no hope of being selected. I had always heard how ridiculously competitive this scholarship is. I'm sorry you didn't get selected but with your stats there are definitely other scholarships you qualify for.

does anyone have any stats on people who were selected as finalists last year?

go to "search" on cc and post "coca-cola scholarship " and you gonna find the all thread!
some stats are very average . Others are great!

i'm pretty ****ed i didn't get semifinalist; here are my stats
SAT: 2320
13/13 APs at my high school taken
Five 5s on AP tests and two 4s, taking 6 APs this year
300 hours of community service
Swim coach
vice president of a club
water polo and swimming (lots of hours)
unweighted gpa is 4.0, weighted is 5.0, total avg is 4.474
national merit semifinalist in competition for scholarship
ap scholar w/ distinction
involved in about 5 clubs
went to science olympiad state competition every year and science bowl nationals once
also currently the valedictorian

so how the heck did I not make it when people with like 2190 SATs got in?

2190 isn't a bad score buddy. If someone was better than you in other categories, they got it. stop complaining.
