Coca-Cola Scholarship - 2008-2009

WOO LAST MINUTE SUBMISSIONS!
I just put it in the mail!

^ ... = spam?

How bad would it be if it were late? I came home a little while ago, ready to go to the post office to mail it in, and found I had never done the essay. I would reeally like to make it amazing, not a 15 minute piece of crap. Should I even bother with mailing it out tomorrow?

how bad is it that i didn't turn in a picture of myself?

Wooo just sent it in! Absolute possible last minute! Good luck everybody!

Fireball guy, do you know how important that section about outside courses/dual enrollment is? (if you have a lot of other stuff anyways)

The deadline appeared many times, bolded, and underlined. Also, it's a postmark deadline, which tends to be more firm. It is, however, possible that the person receiving mail and filing the applications does not care, but I would not count on it in the slightest. If you do decide to send it late, send it overnight express.

It's my understanding that the picture is just to help the reader distinguish you in their mind while reviewing your application. Not including a photo shouldn't disqualify you, but I would think it would hear you a little in two ways:
1. Your reader may mark you lower subconsciously because they can't make as much of a personal connection. That probably wouldn't be an intentional decision though.
2. Generally mistakes indicate lack of caring, although obviously some amount of mistakes are excusable -- we all make them. So as long as the rest of your application is clean, I don't think they would regard it as carelessness.
So basically, I would say don't worry about it, if you are truly a deserving candidate, you will get the scholarship.

In previous years evaluations, this is not a criteria that expressly appeared in the rubric. I think this fits under the umbrella of academics and motivation. So to the extent that dual-enrollment courses show your motivation as well as your use of the resources available to you, that will reflect positively on you. That being said, I don't think it is the expectation of Coca-Cola that you will have taken dual-enrollment courses. If this helps, I don't have any dual-enrollment courses either.

Again, good luck to everyone. To even have made it to this stage is an honor.

Do you have a copy of the rubric?

Did anyone here anything about the deadline being changed to January 16th?

No, who told you that? A google search turns up no results confirming it.

To 09910745:
No, all information available publicly states the deadline is January 9. I see no reason why they would extend this deadline... it's not like they is any shortage of applicants.

To all:

Finalists will be notified in February 2009.

also

This may be old news, but Coca Cola has published the names of the semi-finalists:

Good luck to all, it is an amazing scholarship!

The email said March 11th, but all the application says Februrary 11th. If they finish with the applications on Februrary 2nd, I don't know why they'd wait 5 weeks to notify us.

Also, how did everyone attach the picture? It said not to staple but also to write stuff on the back? Did you just throw it in the envelope with the rest of your application? AND does anyone know how many semi-finalists there are?

around 2000 i believe?

Yea. I'm fairly sure they're going to notify in February. That's what it says on their website. Also, keep in mind that semi-finalists were supposed to be notified

There are 2100 semifinalists of over 75,000 applicants. 250 finalists will be selected.

And I paper-clipped the photo to the application.

I second icfireball. The application and all of its materials said February. And I paper-clipped everything including my picture.

Err... and I just realized I didn't finish my thought. Basically what I was trying to say was that the semi-finalists were notified ahead of the released schedule.

It would be so nice to win this! I think my only negatives are my essays, which are bland. Hopefully the rest is ok and I get this scholarship! It would allow me to attend my dream school thanks to the money

Good luck az. Also, from what I've heard, being a Coca Cola scholar is a lot more than just the money -- they really take care of you... you are practically set for life in terms of job opportunities.

can you elaborate on that icfireball?
