Where is the list of people who are semifinalists?

I got the letter in the mail on Saturday, but I haven’t gotten the email. I can’t find where to go on the site either. How long was your delay between the letter and email?

I received a letter notifying me I was a semifinalist, but didn’t get an email with the application. Tschreck, when was the email sent? In the letter, they said the next part of the app was on line…

I didn’t make it…what does coca cola look for? Is it not just academically strong candidates but also those with tons of volunteer experience?

I heard that coca cola likes to see lots of community service. I don’t have a lot of community service hours (it’s kind of impossible to do 1000 hours of community service at my school), and spent about 10 minutes on the application. It’s kind of shocking that I got semifinalist, actually.

WHERE IS THE APPLICATION, ANYONE?

It’ll be online officially on Dec. 1 on the coke scholars page. You use the login you created to fill out the first application to log in to the second phase.

And, yeah, it’s really hard to get community service at my school since I live in a dormitory and we’re pretty tightly bound campus.

The login for the secure website for semi-finalists are online now. Just logged in.

wth…
not to brag, but how the HELL did i not get it?!?!?!?!?!

does coca-cola only look at community service???

i mean, i have a 4.5 GPA, top 4 in my class, ap scholar w/distinction, winner of international piano comps, goldman sachs scholarship winner, nfaa finalist, volunteer at my local senior home, 2200 SAT/32 ACT, class prez for 3 years, etc.

WTH!

is there a number i can call coca-cola to look into my app??!?!?

fuming

First, to those who didn’t get this, get a grip. It’s not that big a scholarship. There are a lot more and a lot larger scholarships out there and guess what? You can’t have won the Coca-Cola Scholarship to qualify for those!

Then, to those who did get it, congratulations, but get over yourselves and stop whining about the next phase of the application. It’s what you wanted, am I wrong?

This thread amused me beyond all reason. You all ARE going to college and not kindergarten next year, correct?

Not everyone got the letter right?
I’m 1/355, 2240/35, 4.0 (4.886 W),about 600 hrs of volunteering etc and i havent received a letter yet. The website does say wait until Jan to assume you havent advanced. So it is possible some letters are still in transit right?

I would look online but the list seems to not be loading. Is that happening with other people?

35, 1/200, 4.0UW, state champion in 2 competitive events, $200,000 business, 200+ volunteering hours
No semi-finalist? what the hell? After seeing some of the other stats of kids who were accepted, I’m kinda wondering where I went wrong.

You and me both 1MX! We both got hosed. I dont know how or why. I’m guessing it isnt enough volunteer hours as this is a scholarship that puts a lot of weight on that. But w/e, at least we can feel left out together. Where do you want to go for college 1MX??

I don’t know anymore, this is extremely discouraging.

I’d love to see who made it from my state, but every time that I click on a state, nothing shows up. Do I need to be logged in to tell, or perhaps I’m looking the night before dec 1st, so they aren’t up yet?

Is the site’s list not working for anyone else?
Can someone be so kind as to copy and paste the California list onto here? Please?

1MX and bballdude, well, i actually called coca cola and asked about specific criterias they judged on. turns out, they do everything by computer, so it’s a point thing based on how many boxes you fill out. volunteer is also a biggie. so I guess people who dedicate themselves to a few activities instead of doing a little bit of everything loses out. what i am surprised with is how impersonal the selection is. for example, if you have a great list of stellar awards, etc, a computer wouldn’t know the difference. haha.
oh well, there are lots of other ones out there. I was just pretty taken back when i heard the news. this is a good lesson to learn.

The site’s list isn’t working for me either. Ugh, this is frustrating. If anyone has the Florida list, it would be much appreciated.

It’s kind of surprising that they’d just do it by computer, especially given the shallowness of involvement that can sometimes come from being involved in everything (not saying that it necessarily does, but it can). But congrats to those who did get semifinalist, I’m sure you deserve it, and good luck from here on out!

Thanks perpetual-That’s encouraging-you really can’t get too personal with 100,000 applicants.

Puddly, not working for me either…I’m thinking it has something to do with fixing the scholarship dollars tonight, prior to deadline of notification

Oh, bleh! Thanks, 1MX!

yeah the one on the newer site doesnt work but it also posted on the older looking site: https://www.coca-colascholars.org/cokeWeb/servlet/SearchResultsController?actionPage=finalists.

It has this year’s list.

In rethinking this, all of you who were not selected should contact Coca-Cola and demand a re-evaluation of applications. Calmly, rationally, with the facts you have. I say this because the process this year was not done well, confused us all and it sounds to me like everyone, even those who were selected, is unsure of the hows, whys and even ifs of the process. The problems with the release of information only made matters worse. Because CC does not send rejection letters, people are still holding out hope. Because CC posted names with the wrong year, people are still holding out hope. Because CC has inconsistent statements of winner release dates, people are still holding out hope.
Also, obviously the computer selection process is in question. A computer can’t adequately and objectively determine one student’s qualifications over another. Makes one wonder why they bother asking the questions they do. A computer cannot compare one student’s activities and service to another’s. Obviously.
Just my opinion, but Coca-Cola owes every applicant an explanation and needs to correct its mistakes. This year seems to have done a lot of harm to the reputation of the scholarship.
