Just stumbled upon this article as the drug incident occurred at my soon-to-be freshman dorm, Durfee. I'm not naive or anything; I know that students take cocaine and LSD just like at any other college. But some of the details are a little disturbing.

—The fact that other Morse freshmen were anonymously tipping off details for the article strikes me as a bit of a betrayal of trust to the students involved.

—And, as one commenter mentioned, 125 freshman for only 8 freshman counselors seems like a disastrous ratio. Is that typical?

—And why were the police called? What was the punishment for the students involved?

—I'm also curious if events like this happen every year in every RC but just go unnoticed and don't make it to the YDN.

this was a pretty crazy incident. judging from how word spread on campus in the weeks afterwards, this is a pretty unprecedented thing to happen at yale. honestly cocaine and LSD usage is pretty uncommon. you maybe hear about cocaine at some of the frats/house parties but thats about it. in the colleges you’ll pretty much encounter nothing but ethanol and the devil’s lettuce. as far as the freshman/froco ratio, honestly you aren’t going to want or need a lot of attention from your froco after the first couple weeks. don’t really know what the frocos could have done to stop this from happening, certainly no one knew about the lsd usage until after the fact. no idea what the punishment was. again, crazy weird incident and i really doubt you’ll come across this kind of stuff (unless you seek it out of course)

The fact that Morse freshmen were taking psychodelic drugs in their suite strikes me as something newsworthy and something that other Yale students should know about. The students interviewed didn’t give information that was too personal or identifying about themselves or about the students involved in the incidents.

Yes, that’s typical. Yale kids are generally well behaved and don’t need much supervision. One froco per 15 freshman is a very reasonable ratio. In my college it’s more like 1:9, but my college is significantly better than the rest, so nbd.

Okay, obviously the police were called because there were someone in danger of harming himself or someone else during his bad trip. I actually know this student and he really isn’t a bad kid at all; he just had a bad trip. I don’t know if you’ve ever observed someone on a bad trip, but it’s pretty scary. Calling the police was definitely the right move. I know that one student was expelled (the host of the party/owner of the drugs) but I’m not sure of the punishments that the other students received, but the two people that I know were involved are still Yale students.

Basically it’s pretty safe to bet that there are quite a few people tripping during Spring Fling or during an interesting concert at Toad’s. You probably wouldn’t know that they are tripping just looking at them though.

Wow, kids at this prestigious school are using drugs now? Does this look like Harvard to you? As an alumni and generous patron of Yale, I am disgusted. If you kids keep this up, you’ll soon turn into a mediocre school like Stanford.

I saw the title of this forum post and automatically knew who it was talking about. A friend I made at Yale told me about this guy, who may or may not have lived in his area. A bad situation all around, and a major abuse of a great chance (Yale)
