Cockrell Acceptance

I'm sure y'all get tired of new users coming strait to this section and creating a new thread, but what's one more?

I applied for UT Austin on October 1st and got my online acceptance on October 9th. Not a bad turn-around. I'm applying to Cockrell for Mechanical Engineering and now I'm just waiting on their decision.
Stats:

this was one of them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJWDpdO6Kis I sent pics of it with my resume. (I did fix the ground humping problem)
2 awesome letters of rec - 1 from the lead mechanical engineer where I work.

I’m sure you’re in.

I know another guy who’s waiting too on ME. I’m not sure what the holdup on that major is. My son got accepted to EE at the same time that he was accepted to the university. Maybe ME is just going slower?

I will tell you though that when we went to the engineering admissions meeting at UT, they said that they accept first the kids with 4.0’s, then they accept the kids with 1450’s and above (really looking at math scores). Also, ME is one of the more competitive engineering majors because so many apply for the spots.

Keep the faith!!

i’d say you’re in. i’m an ME freshman right now, and i didn’t have nearly as good ec’s as you. all i had going for me was my rank in the top 2% of my class. but, i’m sure your engineering-related ec’s are gonna put you on the top of the pile of applicants to accept :)

Apparently my application lacked whatever the admission committee was looking for because I was only accepted into general admissions. Since I got my “acceptance” letter in the mail I have sent in an appeal with some updated information.
-I was offered a full time engineering internship that is generally reserved for jr/sr college students
-I’ve been working 20+ hours/week at an engineering company (VEXrobotics.com)
-I have actually designed 7 parts that are being mass produced in China
-I’ve moved up 3 ranks in my class

UT is very vague about they’re appeal process. It’s been almost a month since I overnighted my appeal packet and I still haven’t heard back from them. Does anybody have any insight on my situation? Do I have any shot at getting in this time?

I also only have my GPA and class rank going for me. The high school I attend unfortunately does not offer many opportunities for engineering experience except for a basic drafting class and digital electronics course which I am taking. Perhaps my chances will increase if I load up on the higher level mathematics?
