Cockrell Engineering- Has anyone heard back yet? When is the earliest they decide

Congrats man, but you were basically a shoe in for Civil Eng with that ACT/GPA

That’s great congratulations! How early did you apply??

Thanks, guys. I applied on September 30th. Still gonna be waiting on honors though

any more acceptances?

I know a neighbor and her classmate who were accepted to ChemE. Both of them are in the top 2% and have SAT scores of 2200+.

I just joined cc recently but I got accepted on November 20 for chemical engineering. Good luck to everyone else

I was accepted into Electrical Engineering back on January 10th, still waiting to hear from EHP though. I am ranked 25 of 560ish at my high school and have an SAT score of 2200 and an ACT score of 33.

I just got accepted to Electrical Engineering as of 10 minutes ago! Was really excited as I have been waiting a billion years for my major. I had a 2070 SAT, 1350 Math-Critical Reading, 4.2 weighted GPA, ranked 11/601 tons of ECs and leadership positions, lots of community service, etc. Oh, and I applied in late October if that matters to anyone.

Cockrell acceptance posted today.

hippiechicken: are you in state or oos? still haven’t heard. ACT 35 & GPA 3.6 & NMSF (NMF?) but I was told OOS notification will be after in-state.

AH! OOS from Kansas with decent stats wanting into Turing/Deans Scholars with CS as my top choice got into my second choice of Electrical Engineering at Cockrell!

Did this happen to anyone else wanting CS but getting a second? Like isn’t CNS much easier than Cockrell? How could CNS turn me down? I have a nice background.

CS is more competitive than many other majors in CNS; just like Petroleum or ChemE in Cockrell.

Any word from Cockrell Petroleum Engineering?

^Still waiting on Petroleum. Apparently the majority of decisions will not be made until mid to late February so don’t sweat it.

@jdeloach

When did you hear from them? What are your stats?

I am also an OOS waiting on CS. I am really nervous now.

@njoycomp

I just checked MyStatus today. I did not get an email. Most people said they heard yesterday or something.

Stats:
ACT: 32/31 (31w/ writing, 32 on time without)
Class Rank: 3/430ish
Course Work: 11 AP’s including senior year and 3 CS classes at Kansas State University.
EC’s: Varsity Debate and Swimming. (4th, 13th place at State respectively as a junior)

I am employed as an intern at a defense contractor, have worked on research projects at K-State, various personal pet projects like FB apps and such. Really strong letter of rec from the President of the company I intern for 1.5 years now (and I actually code and have my own projects, I don’t refill coffee). If I was at K-State I would be a junior standing in CS coursework. (The reason I have good CS resume is my father is a CS professor and is very supportive of CS’y things)

I was VERY surprised to not make it into CS. Hopefully Turing Scholars accepts me and I still somehow get into CS.

Good luck to you! Are you applying to Turing’s as well?

@jdeloach

You have really great stats! I am surprised you did not get accepted. I am sure you can change to CS.

I have also applied to Turing. I am not too hopeful now.

Sorry but you need to be accepted as a CS major first before being considered for the Turing Scholars Honors Program.

@goldtx

What information leads you to this conclusion? There is nothing to indicate that on their website. It just says apply to UT and submit the honors application, hell, it doesn’t even say must select CS as a major.

I spoke to someone in the program currently, who had his acceptance to Turing’s before his acceptance to UT, so that leads me to believe that your claim is mere speculation.

I sent an email earlier today to the Turing Scholar’s program to ask about it but I don’t expect a reply till Monday.

The Turing Scholars Honors Program is an honors program for outstanding Computer Science undergraduates, according to this website: [Turing Scholars Honors Program at The University of Texas at Austin](Turing Scholars | Department of Computer Science)

Also, you may want to read the blog of someone who was already in the program:
