COE v. Econs

I applied and was accepted to Brown with a planned double conc. (or degree, if it turns out fine) in econs and IR. But with the introduction of COE, I’ve gotta rethink my choice. For one, though COE sounds more interesting than ol’ school econs, I don’t know if it’ll be a hit or flop with recruiters…and I hope it isn’t abt touchy-feely new age management topics…any views?

I don't know what companies you were referring to with the word 'recruiters'; but my friends graduated last Fall with degrees in IR, Econ, Business Econ (now COE) -- and they've landed jobs with the top Wall St. investment banks or consulting firm. And by saying that, I mean Goldman Sachs/Lehman Brothers/McKinsey.

I believe that any of those majors should give you ample preparation and set of skills that appeal to recruiters. None of them is better than the rest when it comes to attracting recruiters. More often than not, it is a matter of having the right cut, not the right major (if there is such thing as the "right" major).

Come to Brown, and try giving each concentration a feel for a while.. Take intro courses in those fields. Do what you feel suits you the most.
