This kind of scares me... but the official response seems to be that it's never been a problem. I guess I'm specifically wondering about showering, which seems like it would be awkward. Any thoughts?

lol no not awkward at all.

in fact the idea of non-coed bathrooms seems weird to me now ...

co-ed bathrooms??? that's kind of bizarre to me. haha.

i wouldnt mind that... coz theres a very huge chance u might see someone naked.... of the opposite sex.. coz i forget to zip my pants a lot after i pee.

yeah whatever I'm over it. I'd much rather run into naked girls than naked guys.

haha are the showers seperated so each person can have their own space? i dont think they would just have one big shower for both guys and girls. the girls wouldnt be to thrilled about that...guys wouldnt mind, haha.

im not an expert, but its going to vary alot by dorms. Lots of simmons rooms have there own full bathroom (albiet very very small). Worry about these things later :-P

It's not only an MIT thing....

Lest Annie Ruderman '01 thinks her coed bathroom experience (On the Campus, November 8) is completely unprecedented at Princeton, let me relate an experience of mine. Back in the great old days of 1994¤95, I and 12 of my friends had the now unattainable honor of living on the top floor of Blair Tower. Thirteen guys and one tiny bathroom marked with the letter F. The men's bathroom was down a long, long staircase that seemed that much longer during the wee hours of Friday and Sunday mornings. We had an informal conversation with the six girls downstairs. They quickly understood our unfortunate predicament. Yes, they said, we'll be happy to share our bathroom. And share we did for the entire year ¤ men and women used the bathroom interchangeably and simultaneously. If there was any social psychology involved, it was just how normal it all became.

I'm hearin a lot of questions but not too many answers. Not to mention, dont MIT girls have the stereotype for being ones you would not want to run into naked either? I mean, i'm sure it'd be better than a guy, but still....maybe that's why they dont have to worry about things like assault. I would doubt there's a huge community coed shower though. However, i admit i'd love that idea.

Many (most? all?) of the floors in EC have single-occupancy bathrooms. You can go in by yourself and lock the door. But honestly, it's next to impossible to tell if the person behind the curtain in the next stall is a guy or girl in the first place. People aren't walking around naked... haven't seen a naked person yet (of either sex).

(Over30's son)

Darn. If only MIT was on the west coast, you might have a different story.

Do the showers only have a curtain that a random person walking by can easily open? Or a door that can be locked?

Most showers have curtains

that's kinda unsafe, don't u think...

I'm sure the whole bathroom has a lock on the door, and if someone from your floor tried to attack you, then you'd know where they live.

are all MIT bathrooms like that? Maybe it's not so bad but I've never ever in my life seen one.

wow this is really weird. you would think more people would make a big deal about this and i would think this would scare many girls...

haha you guys; all freakin out over co-ed bathrooms. I live right next to Vassar college, which, as some of you may know, is just about the most liberal college EVER. Anyways, all their bathrooms are co-ed. I spent three weeks there for a summer camp, and you got so used to it so quick that no one even cared. I mean, I remember having conversations with a female friend who was in the shower stall next to me and it was totally normal.

Don't worry about it; although if you think you're REALLY gonna have problems with that...then you might! heh. But honestly, it SOUNDS a lot weirder than it actually is.

I was abducted by evil magical dwarves inside of a coed bathroom...

my freshman year dorm, was single sex bathroom, but we had girls going in there all the time. it is disgusting, but it is not unusual to hear moaning noises of a guy and a girl in the next shower.
