–While I have not started writing my honors essay yet, I would consider writing, particularly essay writing, to be one of my stronger areas. I come from a school with a very strong english department and equally gifted teachers. I am not sure what the Honors College Policy is on declaring majors, but I intend on majoring in Communications since journalism is not offered. Also, if anyone has any information or personal experience with the department, I would love to here from you. Thanks!
Completely forgot to mention… I will have taken 8 AP courses (max you can take is 9-10) and 6 honors courses (maxed out at my school)
It looks like a good match!
Note that for journalism, a preferred path would be to major in a subject (Political science, Environmental Studies…) and have a lot of experience with the college media, including anything digital, plus finding relevant internships.
@wildflowers98 The College of Charleston does not require you to apply to a major. My son is a freshman at the Honors College and is a William Aiken Fellow. I believe that you are correct that your essays are a strong component of the application . I also believe that the “interest” that my son showed the Honors College strengthened his application. I’ve linked a profile with stats for the class of 2020 which may be helpful. We have been so impressed with the support and interest shown by the Honors College staff . It is truly a hidden gem IMO . My son chose them over Furman, Wofford, Clemson Calhoun Honors and Winthrop . Good luck to you . If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.

Thank you so much for you advice! I will certainly consider it.
Hi @carolinamom2boys ! I have noticed that you seem to be very knowledgable of admissions to schools in SC…I
also really like USC and have considered applying to honors. I got a 29 on my last ACT and I just took the SAT and believe my score improved (obviously I am on the low end of the totem pole for honors). I know the school as a whole is very difficult to get in and I am not sure how much I would enjoy being in the program; however, I also really like Capstone. Do you have any idea what my chances are for the Capstone Scholars program?
@wildflowers98 I’d love to help, but USC is the one school we didn’t apply to. I suggest that you start a chance me thread for them or go on the universities and college section of CC . There are lots of old threads with good info. Also you can see who has offered info and PM them. Most are very happy to help. Good luck.
