Can someone tell me how I can break my current Cuisinart so I can buy the red Smeg? Oh, that won’t work; I got it at Costco, so they would replace it for me. :slightly_frowning_face:

Your post made me laugh. My coffee maker is also Cuisinart from Costco. It’s pretty old and sometimes the coffee tastes like soap. I’d love to buy something different but my H is obsessed with buying a new one at Costco. I think the Cuisinart is on sale for around $50.00. He would not be able to wrap his mind around a $200 + coffee maker.

Dang. I heart  that Smeg. Dang. I want one but can’t justify it. Because my Mr. would only drink instant Folgers. :sob: I also want the D&G Smeg toaster. :joy:

That’s a fun looking contraption @BunsenBurner !

My old one seems to have got a second life so I’m still looking so I’m prepared because I expect the acting up will return - but will update and still take suggestions!

Lol glad to hear I’m not the only one to cover the SMEG! Hey it’s duel function - makes your coffee and is a piece of art in the kitchen.

People spent lots of $ on purses or shoes - and they might just stay in your closet - you can look at this daily!

I have a toaster oven, but I occasionally think of buying an old fashioned toaster. I just checked reviews for the SMEG, and they are pretty terrible. So, you didn’t get to spend my money this time

ETA - My fancy espresso machine is my indulgence. I have a Miele super automatic or something like that. It grinds the beans, sucks in the milk, and spits our a perfect latte. I LOVE IT. But, as I’ve posted here before, my husband continues to use the little 4 cup Krups machine I got for my first wedding back in the 80s.

That’s amazing! A classic obviously

I just bought a french press. (8-cup size but actually makes 2 mugs.) Combined with the burr grinder a friend gave me and my electric kettle it makes fantastic coffee very quickly.

Good to “see” you @Consolation! thanks for bumping io this thread, you read my mind that I needed to look here. Kids rebelled against their dad”s instant addiction and want real coffee when they come (me too!). The 25 yr old $10 Mr. Coffee kind of works, but… I’d like something less clunky. Alas, no French press, need to keep coffee hot for that “second cup.”

We have a farberware percolator and it makes terrific coffee and keeps it warm. No auto off switch, however🙄

I have 3 different Farberware percolators, a 1-4 cup, 4-8 cup and a 12 cup. They are all over 40 yrs old! We use the 4-8 cup everyday, (just the 2 of us, but we use a large coffee mugs), and we love them!

Like Consolation I also just have a French press, but that red Smeg is a cutie!

We recently bought this thermal coffee maker and have been quite pleased. It turns off when the coffee is done brewing and the thermal pot keeps it hot for hours. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LU2I3V0/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_ASTX9VJ6JEYQA1SY1HEQ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

We have a cheap coffee maker that suits our needs. (Plus a grinder that hubby insists makes the decaf he needs taste better.) However I absolutely endorse the idea of splurging on a small appliance that you will use and love everyday.
