Cog Sci Major

Hi! I'm looking to major in Cog Sci, but I'm a little concerned with Calculus and Comp Sci being prereqs. I'm not a huge math person. I'm decent at it, but it is DEFINITELY not my strength. Am I going to be able to survive in Cog Sci and keep a good GPA for applying to grad school?

For sure. I’ve always thought of myself as a humanities person, and three weeks into CS 61A, I loved it so much I switched to pursuing CS. That’s an extreme case, but you get my gist. There is a lot of support for math and CS classes. I have always gotten the help I need, without fail. I wouldn’t worry about the more technical requirements of the Cog Sci major. They make up a small percentage of the overall courses you will take.

Math is definitely not my thing and I had a pretty bad time in Math 1A but that was due to my lacking work ethic. I know if I had taken advantage of office hours I would have been way better off. That being said, I LOVED 61A. There’s a lot of hand holding and the TAs are some of the best you’ll ever meet. Don’t be scared. You’re in good hands.
