Cognitive Neuroscience vs. Cognitive Science

Brown has been my dream school for the past few years and I’m looking into majors right now. I’m very interested in both the cognitive science and cognitive neuroscience concentrations so I was wondering if someone could elaborate on the differences between the two? From what I read on Brown’s website, I’ve gathered that C-neuroscience is more technical and deals more with chemistry/biology whereas CS is more psychological with music, etc. Can someone explain more?

Who would care since discussing is not learning? I would explore this in college instead.

@BrownParent what do you mean?

You should compare course offerings on Brown’s website. Neuro will probably have physics, organic chem and comp sci, while cogsci will offer courses in linguistics, philosophy and psychology. Figure out which one is more appealing to you.

As an applicant, you don’t need to understand the differences now. It’s perfectly legitimate to say on your application that you are interested in one or both of those concentrations. If you get in, if you decide to go, then once you arrive on campus you can explore which of these two (or any of the other concentrations) fit your needs best. Brown does not accept into specific majors – it won’t matter one iota in terms of your acceptance whether you want to concentrate in cognitive science or cognitive neuroscience.
