Hey everyone.
In terms of prospective majors, my main interest falls somewhere in the realm of cognitive neuroscience, and above all I want my school to be strong in new research. However, I'm also looking for a school with a strong philosophy/other humanities program.
I've heard that Brown is a forerunner when it comes to cognitive neurosci. Is this true? How are the humanities departments there? And what other schools might I take a look at?
Thanks!

University of Rochester- BCS

Yep Brown is among the tops in cognitive science

At the level of an undergrad though, you don't need the best department in the country, you just need one that offers you appropriate opportunities to get lab experience so that you will be competitive for grad school.

Carefully consider UT Austin as it your instate flagship institution. They have an especially robust Institute for Neuroscience which contains (by my count) some 70 labs.

Good luck.

Do you know the best PA college for cognitive neuroscience? I'm an adult considering returning to school and am particularly interested in neuroscience, concentrating in neuroaesthetics, cognition. I thought the Ursinus classes looked great, but read some bad reviews of the school on this site. Thanks!

Carnegie Mellon, UPenn, Univ of Pittsburg. PA is blessed to have a lot of great universities in the biomedical sciences. Lesser ones in the area include Thomas Jefferson, Drexel, Penn State. I hope that helps in giving you a starting point.

hopkins has an amazing neuroscience program for undergrads, and for grads, it is ranked #3 behind Harvard and Stanford.

Second Hopkins, It is the only school to be among the top 10 list for cognitive science and neuroscience on that list.

Totally recommend Brown for neuroscience and MIT for cognitive science.

Thanks everyone!!

Phead, it looks like you may be a student at JH. Would you care to share a little about your experience. It is a biomedical powerhouse, how do you benefit from that in your studies? How is the crime around the campus? What is the culture of the school like?
