I heard that the cognitive science program at IU is ranked pretty high. I was just wondering if anyone knew any specifics of this major at IU.
When do undergrads typically get to begin research? can they start freshman year?
How well respected is IU's program?

If you have any other comments about the major at IU, feel free to post.

Have you applied to IU. The Cox Research Scholars program provides research opportunities for freshman. But you have to have applied to IU by Nov 1. If you haven’t applied yet, then you probably missed the boat for a lot of IU opportunities. If finances are an issue, given that you are from Indiana, I think it would be hard to beat the value of a psychology degree from IU given in-state tuition.

yeah i applied in early october & i’ve been accepted.

also, when does the honors college invitation come? I’m really hoping to get into the hutton honors college but i haven’t received an invitation yet, not sure if I won’t if I haven’t gotten one by now.
does everyone with at least a 1350 SAT score automatically get the cox award? or are there only a select few recipients? I have a 1320 math + cr score, 2030 overall, but i would re-take the sat if everyone who got the 1350 got the award.

Did you receive an admissions package in the mail. If you did, and you qualify to apply for the Hutton Honors College or the Cox Research Scholarship and some other specific scholarships, then you would have received a selective scholarship application in the admissions package. At top 20%, your class rank (and I assume your gpa, given your rank) probably was too low to get the invitation to Hutton Honors College (they probably want top 5%, too), and you have to be top 5% of graduating class to get the Cox scholarship consideration. Not nearly everyone who has a 1300+ gets a Cox scholarship. Probably way less than 5% of that group.

you can look into IU STARS or IFLE. But personally i would recommend just contacting a lab directly. Getting an RA job isnt very hard at all and you can even get course credit. I am a freshman this year and i work 10 hours a week in the Sociology lab and i get 3 credit hours.
