Cohort-based competitive merit scholarships

Just to be clear, my original intention was to compile a list of “cohort-based full ride (or full tuition plus) competitive merit scholarships” not just full rides or auto merit more generally. I was interested because my D18 was lucky enough to win one without realizing the level of benefits it would bring, and I thought it could be helpful to others to be able to point them to a list of potential targets.

Feel free to keep adding more. When I get time I’ll go through the suggestions here and sort them into three categories:

  1. Openly competitive full ride cohorts
  2. Restricted cohorts (several of the ones mentioned above appear to be targeted to URMs or to specific subjects like STEM)
  3. Non-full ride cohorts

New beginning fall on 2019 the University of Nebraska (all three campuses) have full tuition plus living stipend scholarships for students who want to go into education - https://cehs.unl.edu/cehs/teacher-scholars-academy/#text

@Twoin18 Curious - what do you mean by “cohort” based?

@browniesundae I mean a group (“cohort”) of students with the scholarship who go through the four years with classes and/or other enrichment activities together (even living together in some cases - for my D this was compulsory the first year). They typically have some or all of the elements listed for the NC State Park scholarships (https://park.ncsu.edu/about/):

Mentoring: Park Faculty Mentors work individually with Park Scholars on preparation for undergraduate research, internships, graduate/professional schools, and national scholarships
Freshman Seminar: Weekly seminar during the first year featuring distinguished guests, including former North Carolina Governor James Hunt and outstanding NC State faculty
Retreats: Team-building retreats at the start of the freshman and senior years
Learning Labs: Experiential learning opportunities to study leadership in the context of state and national issues
Leadership Academy: A comprehensive, four-year program designed to develop Park Scholars’ leadership potential
Civic Engagement Initiatives: Year-long projects with community agencies to develop strategies and implement solutions for issues facing the populations they serve

Here are two I haven’t seen mentioned so far:
